September 8 is the International Literacy Day.

It has already become a tradition among philology students to hold a competition for the best expert of Ukrainian spelling, dedicated to the International Literacy Day.

Lecturers of the Department of Ukrainian Language (Prof. L.A. Bilokonenko, Assoc. Prof. K.A. Kachailo, Prof. T.M. Mishenina) organized and conducted an intellectually-educational event. This year the competition for the best expert of Ukrainian spelling took place not only among the students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology, but was also joined by the applicants for higher education from other faculties of Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University. The event was attended by 85 students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology (twice as many as last year!), 30 freshmen of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, 26 students of the Department of Music and Choreography of the Faculty of Arts.

The text of the dictation “Мова й пісня” (“The Language and the Song”) was also educational, as it raised the issue of continuous development of the Ukrainian word in close connection with the song, guided the contestants to realize the responsibility of each human fore preserving traditions and finding ways to develop native words and songs.

Students joined the millennial process of language creation, testified how much they feel the energy of the Ukrainian word sounding from the stands of international forums, and the tenderness of Ukrainian song, which may speak to the dearest person, and knew how they rationalize language as a logical system that allows world gnosis.
