Department of History of Ukraine started its work in October 2000. In 2002, the Department provided training of students graduating the newly established Faculty of History. In the same year, the postgraduate study on the specialty 07.00.01 - History of Ukraine was opened.
The Department implements educational and methodical work on the specialty “History” of the Faculty of Tourism, Geography and History and other specialties of the KSPU.
In 2014-2016 the Department was the platform for the second stage of the National Student Olympiad on History.
In 2015 the Annual Historical and Local Studies Readings “Kryvorizhzhia: The View into the Past ...” was founded. In the same year the Department of History of Ukraine was renamed to the Department of History of Ukraine and Law Studies.
Presently the head of the Department is the Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor N. Pechenina. The academic staff of the Department consists of 2 Doctors of Historical Sciences, 5 Candidates of Sciences, 3 Senior Lecturers.
The research areas of the Department work cover the issues of History of Ukraine, culture and law, in particular, the issues of theory, methodology and practice.

The research work of the Department is carried out in terms of the general research theme: “Socio-political processes in Ukraine at the end of the XIX and XX centuries”.
The academic staff of the Department implements the National program for the preparation of a scientific and documentary series of books “History Rehabilitated” (co-authors of the issues devoted to Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvyi Rih regions).
The professors of the Department take an active part in the implementation of international grants and programs.
