The Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work was established in accordance with the order of October 27, 2016. The Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work is headed by Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, Associate Professor Shimko I.
The Department prepares students of specialty 231 Social work. This specialty was licensed in 2014 with the help of the academic staff of the Department of Theory and Practics of Primary Education. The Department of Theory and Practice of Primary Education has its history since 2005, when it was created by Professor Liubar O. The Department of Pedagogy was redistributed on September 1, 2009. The Department of Theory and Practice of Preschool Education and Primary Education was renamed the Department of Theory and Practice of Primary Education.
In addition to preparing students for the specialty 231 Social work, the Department provides psychological and pedagogical and special training for students of the following specialties: "Primary Education and Practical Psychology", "Primary Education and English", "Primary Education and Physical Education", "Primary Education and Informaticsˮ.

Academic staff of the Department successfully combines teaching activity with scientific and scientific-methodical work. As a result, new specializations are opened with the help of the lecturers of the department.
Academic staff of the department is working on the scientific theme “Preparation of the future social teacher and primary school teacher in terms of competent education”. This research is headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Shimko I.
Lecturers of the department are active participants of many conferences of various levels. They participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Topical Issues and Problems in the Development of Social Sciences” (Międzynarodowa Konferencja Naukowa), International Scientific Conference on the Status, Problems and Prospects of Pedagogical Research and Social Work (Sladkovichevo, Slovak Republic), “Global challenges of teacher education in the university space” (Odessa), II International scientific and practical conference “Actual problems of applied psychological and educational science” (Berdyansk) and others.
Lecturers of the Department manage the organization of scientific work in circles and problem groups. Their scientific achievements are published in the annual collections “Modern education in realities and perspectives: social and pedagogical aspect” and “Topical issues of social and pedagogical and primary education”. Moreover, student subject competitions are systematically conducted in basic special educational disciplines, which are held under the guidance of the lecturers of the Department.
The department creates conditions for teaching postgraduate and doctoral students, who will ensure the growth of their scientific potential in the nearest future.
