On March 12, 2022, the Union of Rectors of Ukraine made important decisions regarding the situation in higher education and the participation of its representatives in the defense of the state during martial law.

According to the approved decision, the priority tasks of the Union are:

  • support for the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science on the abolition of the State Final Examination, Independent External Evaluation in secondary school, simplification of admission to the master's degree in 2022, the abolition of graduation from medical universities under the "Krok" system;
  • giving universities the right to set their own tuition fees (if necessary);
  • appeals to the government to increase the number of public procurement places by 30% for 2022 entrants, especially for entrants from the most affected areas.

Joining the fight against the Russian invaders, representatives of the higher school:

  • call on the Academic Councils and Rector's Offices of the Free Economic Zone to transfer monthly one-day earnings to the account of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • condemns the actions of the Council of Rectors of Russia and Belarus, which shamefully supported military aggression against Ukraine;
  • appeal to all partner universities abroad and international colleagues to support Ukraine, to put pressure on their governments and parliaments to impose sanctions on Russia, and to close the sky over Ukraine.
