The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet held an online meeting with the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Education, Ms. Stephanie Giannini.
He appealed to Ms. Stefania to support Ukrainian pupils, students, teachers and educators in accessing the educational and scientific process at this extremely difficult time for Ukraine.
Ms. Stefania expressed her absolute support for the people of Ukraine and noted that UNESCO is ready to provide expert assistance to expand and strengthen our distance education system.
At the same time, Ms. Stefania noted that UNESCO will, within the framework of its mandate, analyze what opportunities for education for temporarily evacuated citizens of Ukraine can be provided by EU countries, especially for people who want to get higher education. Ms. Giannini said that universities in some countries are already actively supporting students and academics and are ready to help them in their learning and activities.
Taking the opportunity, in connection with the unprecedented manifestation of Russian aggression, he asked Ms. Stephanie to support the closure of the sky over Ukraine.
He also asked Ms. Stephanie to pay special attention to the analysis of the situation resulting from the ruthless destruction of cultural monuments, including educational institutions. Such aggressive actions of the occupiers will lead to the genocide of humanity and history.
There are 5 powerful nuclear power plants on the territory of Ukraine, in case of damage of which “peaceful atoms” will cause a catastrophe not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world. That is why the issue of closing the sky is of paramount importance to us.
We truly thank UNESCO for its support and look forward to further assistance and cooperation.
We are strong!
We are Ukraine!
