During the week of August 12-16, 2024, teachers of the Department of Translation and Slavic Philology of Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University - Natalia Kudriavtseva, Kateryna Hostra and Liudmyla Matsepura - visited Greifswald (Germany) to take part in an international summer school dedicated to Ukraine and global Ukrainian studies.

This year's Greifswalder Ukrainicum summer school was organized for the 28th time, making it the oldest summer academy for Ukrainian studies in Germany. The theme of the 28th Ukrainicum was a rethinking of the tragic experience of the two years of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which was reflected in its title "Wounds of War: Ukraine Two Years After the Invasion". The school is organized by the Alfred Krupp Research Institute, and the summer academy traditionally invites leading Ukrainian scholars from around the world to teach. The program of the academy included open lectures (available to the general public), five-day courses of lectures for the school's students, panel discussions, thematic excursions, as well as film screenings and discussions.

Professor, Doctor of Philology Natalia Kudriavtseva was a lecturer at one of the four main lecture courses at Ukrainecum. During the week, she gave the students of the summer school a five-day course of sociolinguistic lectures "Language Wars and Wounds: Inflicting and Healing", dedicated to language policies in Ukraine and changes in the language situation during the war.

International summer schools are special educational events where there is an atmosphere of openness and interest on the part of both students and faculty. It is important that the teachers of Kryvyi Rih Pedagogical University learn from the experience of summer schools at the best universities in Europe, which enhances our integration into the global academic process.
